What a delightful little roadside stream! A Yellowstone stream with brown & rainbow trout near the town of Gardiner. One of my new favorites to fish in Yellowstone with very low grizzly bear worries in the roadside section of the river. However, upstream at Boiling Springs, it was closed due to bear activity. Best fishing is from Gardiner to Boiling Springs. Fish are on the smaller side.

Deep in grizzly bear country in Yellowstone National Park, the Yellowstone River roams freely. Ran into some Salmonfly activity and Yellowstone cutthroats eager to feed on the surface. Hiked a few miles downstream from the road to get to the good fishing. Saw a bear on the drive back home which caused a bear jam as he sat in the grass next to the road. On the way up a moose was hit by a car and killed outside of West Yellowstone along the highway, minutes before I went past.
Tough river to walk and wade fish. Massive river with tough access and armadas of drift boats. The drift boat fishermen are very courteous though--not complaining about them but just stating the fact that you have to try your best to work around the peak traffic time/spots. Salmonflys were out and the water was relatively cold for late June. I would add this is a very dangerous river to wade as well. At times the strong current nearly toppled me over (only in spots were I wasn't in danger however of getting swept into deeper water. There are some very deep holes with strong currents that can easily drown a wading angler.
