What a wonderful wilderness experience! Good fishing and solitude deep in the forest canyon. Mix of brown trout and rainbows. Fish averaged ~10". This is the wild trout section below Beardsley Lake. Long hike downstream to get to where I wanted to fish. Very smoky due to what seems like almost all of California being on fire.

Above Devil's Postpile National Monument is some good small stream trout fishing. Incredible scenery at ~8000'. Feels like you are truly in the wilderness. The Pacific Coast Trail parallels the river for a bit.
Caught a surprising number of brown trout while fishing a dry dropper setup. Had a few hits on the Foam Hopper but almost all the fish came on the Rubber Legs nymph below. Saw a good number of fish rising (for California) but no significant hatches. There were quite a few other fishermen out that day during the week. A great stream to get away from it all and just enjoy nature and exploring. |
