This beginner to intermediate level fly fishing instructional DVD focuses on the basics of indicator and tight line nymphing with a short line leader (7-10ft). Long line nymphing and dry droppers will be covered in another DVD (part II).
After a brief introduction on reading the water and an overview of entomology & fly selection, the DVD is split into two main sections of indicator and tight line nymphing. Each section will first give a detailed look at leader and nymph rigging with a discussion on different options with their strengths and weaknesses. We will also look at split shot/weighted fly selections and indicator selections and how to match the two to produce the right results. This is then followed by casting, line management/mending, positioning & strategy, and hook sets/strike detection. We will then take what we learned and apply it on a variety of conditions, from large and medium sized freestone rivers, to small tailwaters and spring creeks, covering runs, pools, pocketwater, riffles, and rapids. A focus will be on how to read the water and select the right weight (exact amounts-grams/size) and position/approach and the reeling in the of fish caught has been greatly editied to save more time for instruction.
Although each section of the DVD can stand on its own, we will show how both indicator and tight line methods can be used interchangeably with the right leader and nymph rigging selections. We also show the same rivers fished in both sections so that you can compare how each method is used in the same conditions.
