Very cold day, with the morning temps around 8-9 degrees. But that is the norm on the East Walker during the winter. Started out streamer fishing with Todd who was teaching me his techniques. He is an excellent streamer fisherman and also knows the East Walker very well. He had actually been fishing a little before I arrived as he camped out along the river the night before. He had a lot of chases and some nice fish on before I arrived around 8 am. Not long after he gave me some demonstrations & tips, I hooked into a solid brown trout. Todd's Youtube channel is called "Flow". Didn't catch much after that, but we had some good chases from large fish, and Todd had a couple of large fish around 20 inches or so on for a few seconds before they came off. But that is typical streamer fishing. Not high in the numbers but bigger fish and a lot of exciting moments when a large fish chases. After lunch, it was my turn to do a little teaching, and I gave Todd some tips and demonstrations on euro nymphing. Didn't most of the nymph fishing on camera, but we caught a good amount of fish for the little time we were nymphing. Caught this fish on a #16 black Frenchie. I saw him move and miss a previous drift before he struck. Amazing colors! Afterwards we had a couple of beers in Bridgeport at one of the bar & grills is open during the winter with the locals. The East Walker has really grown on me and has become one of my favorite rivers I have ever fished. Looking forward to fishing it more next year and also trying out the Nevada side for the first time.

Hey I love your site and your youtube channel. Curious on the Black Frenchie you seem to use a lot. Do you use Black PT fibers? The ones with sort of a greenish sheen when light bounces off it? Collar color? Hot spot? Rib color? Do you ever use a standard Frenchie? Mostly the Black it seems? Size? Sorry for all the questions lol. If you ever want to float the Truckee Conservancy, let me know. I have the sickest fishing raft you can imagine. Sundays and Mondays are my best days usually to fish. You can hit me up at [email protected] but I will try to check here for a response as well. Thanks!
